At BIVANM, we provide Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) Installation compliance for Imbedded Energy Systems (IES) for Ergon Energy and Energex. This is a critical requirement of solar Imbedded Energy Systems (IES) grid connections for any installations larger than 30kW. Our capabilities also extend to being able to design and document the full electrical system for solar farms of practically any size.
These designs typically include, cable sizing and schedules (AC and DC), panel configurations, DC string harness configurations, AC or DC combiner box design, string monitoring design, AC inverter sizing, HV (farm internal HV feeder sizing and design), etc. To date, the largest solar farm our staff have been involved in is 800MWac.
Our team are frequently asked to act on behalf of a client to review an independent design. This does not mean we take on responsibility and ownership of the designs. In these instances, the client is typically a bank, private investor, or another financial entity.
It is our job to review the designs on their behalf, looking for any obvious design deficiencies, questionable design practices, poor choice of equipment, incorrect environmental ratings of equipment or unrealistic assumptions that may have been made during the design process.
This service provides peace of mind for the client, so they are guaranteed from a trusted, independent source, that the project or design they are funding stacks up. It also ensures that the design and costs they have been presented with are realistic and workable. Design reviews and commenting is a way to proactively get ahead of both documentation and system design to ensure that the building has well-thought-out systems that everyone understands.
A Hazard Analysis Safety Operation (HAZOP) is a systematic and highly structured study with a critical approach to examine the process and engineering intentions of the process design. It is recognised as a formal safety assessment tool to control the process risks to an acceptable level. A HAZOP analysis is mainly carried out during the basic project phase to have enough time to implement the recommendations during the project. Our team will look at the operational problems to see how people will interact with the plant and whether it will cause something unsafe or dangerous to happen.

An owner's engineer is an engineer who represents the owner of a project during design, development, and construction to confirm that the work is done well and within legal standards. They begin work on the project as early as possible, usually during the design and development phase. In a meeting with the owners, they can discuss the scope and goals of the project and define the needs that will be met. It is our job to technically review the design to ensure it’s reasonable and meets the client’s criteria of what they want it to do. The owners can then keep this information in mind as the project moves forward. The owner's engineer inspects the design plans, timelines, and other materials developed to support the project. If the engineer identifies flaws, these can be brought to the attention of the owner to discuss various ways for dealing with them.

Lighting is an important aspect on all projects when planning infrastructure that requires consideration of many factors from the functional to the client’s aesthetic requirements. Our team has extensive experience in the provision of specialist lighting design solutions, including V Category and P Category street lighting designs for roadways, parks, and other public areas.
Our understanding of lighting extends beyond the need to "just light" the area, but to consider the space in context with issues such as functional components, human interface, long term durability of the installation, safety, and amenity. We ensure that our designs are compliant with our clients’ specifications, Local Government Authority (LGA’s) requirements and Australian Standard AS1158 (both V and P Categories).
